The Cuillin Traverse
The Pinnacle of Uk Mountaineering

The Cuillin Munro Ridge Traverse.

The Cuillin Ridge Traverse is one of the most sought after Mountaineering Challenges in the UK.

12 Km of volcanic ridge line spreading South to North which consists of 11 Munro’s and takes in 13000 ft/ 4000 metres of ascent. Most take on this challenge over 2 days which involves two excellent mountain days traversing over 6 Munros each day with a mixture of hiking, scrambling and climbing grade ‘moderate’ up to ‘Very Difficult’ , Along with an overnight bivvy on the ridge.

Ideally we will have spent a day or 2 prior to your booking ( not included in price ) to assess your ability and introduce you to the Cuillin Mountains so we know a traverse is something you can achieve over a 1 or 2 day period.

A full kit list will be sent out with your booking form. On traverse days you can expect to be moving for about 10 hours each day.

What To Expect -

Day 1 of 4

Meeting in the morning at a pre arranged location, we will go through all our kit required for the traverse. Once the kit is sorted we shall then proceed up to the ridgeline to the spot where we aim to spend the following night on the Traverse ( Bivvy spot ) . Stashing our overnight kit the day before enables us to carry less supplies, allowing for a lighter and more enjoyable Traverse.

Day 2 of 4

An Early start meeting for 6am at Glenbrittle Car Park (the gate to the campsite). An approximate 3 hour walk to reach our first Munro, Sgurr Nan Eag from here the fun really begins with the walk in now out the way! after a quick refuel we will head onto Sgurr Dubh Mor, the second Munro. Moving onto more technical terrain from here we will traverse across the summits, making our way to the half way point of the ridge, taking in Sgurr Alasdair, the highest peak on the island Sgurr Mhic Choinnich and the infamous Inn Pin, and then onto Sgurr Na Banachdaich, where our overnight kit awaits us . Here we will spend the night under the stars with various small bivvy sites on the mountain top allowing us to escape any wind. Time to relax, refuel and get ready for day two, you are now half way along the ridge!

Day 3 of 4

Another early start on Day 3 will see us work along the final 5 summits, the most technical section of the ridge. Leaving any kit we can at the bivvy site hidden (and yet to be retrieved) . A day of Narrow Aretes, short pitched climbing and several abseils awaits us. With more exposure than the previous day and the longest distance between 2 Munros, This takes us over Sgurr A Ghreadaidh, Sgurr A Mhadaidh, Brauch Na Frithe, Am Bhastier and onto Sgurr Nan Gillean. This day is the most testing with many reaching the summit of Brauch Na Frithe and seeing the sights of Sligachan Hotel in the far distance, many mouth watering moments over the thought of a cold refreshment can win the mind of the exhausted climber! With the will power to push over the remaining summits and complete this epic traverse it will be one you will never forget and one that will leave you wanting more!

Day 4 of 4

After a good rest we will meet up at an agreed time and location and head up to the ridge at a leisurely pace and walk off the stiff muscles to retrieve any kit we left at the Bivvy Site.
